California State Treasurer wants to the state to study a public bank option for pot businesses Last Updated on 2017-12-20 11:31:55 Los Angeles Times / 11.07.17 / by James Rufus Koren California Treasurer John Chiang wants the state to consider creating a government-owned bank that could serve cannabis businesses, one of several recommendations aimed at helping bring those businesses into the financial mainstream. The recommendations, the product of a year of meetings of a cannabis working group organized by Chiang’s office, suggest there may be ways for California to help cannabis businesses pay their taxes and open bank accounts. But they also illustrate that the relationship between banks and marijuana companies will remain tenuous unless federal laws are changed. World Health Organization Finds No Public Health Risks Or Abuse Potential For CBD Last Updated on 2017-12-20 11:16:05 Forbes / Janet Burns / Dec. 11th 2017 A World Health Organization (WHO) report has found no adverse health outcomes but rather several medical applications for cannabidiol, a.k.a. CBD, despite U.S. federal policy on this cannabinoid chemical. According to a preliminary WHO report published last month, naturally occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans (and animals), and is not associated with any negative public health effects [PDF]. Experts further stated that CBD, a non-psychoactive chemical found in cannabis, does not induce physical dependence and is "not associated with abuse potential."
