In the descriptions of the substances under review, the FDA stated, “CBD has been shown to be beneficial in experimental models of several neurological disorders, including those of seizure and epilepsy. In the United States, CBD-containing products are in human clinical testing in three therapeutic areas, but no such products are approved by FDA for marketing for medical purposes in the United States.” The notice goes on to say that CBD is a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). How CBD Changes The Brain To Treat Psychiatric Disorders Last Updated on 2017-07-25 11:56:36 Canna Tech |  July 25, 2017  |  By Jack Woodhouse In a recent study, published in Frontiers in Pharmacology, a group of scientists from the University of São Paulo in Brazil reviewed all the available research in order to learn more about the mechanisms at play when psychiatric disorders are treated with CBD. The study suggests that CBD’s therapeutic effects are caused by a number of acute mechanisms as well as changes in the structure of the brain over time, known as neuroplasticity. CBD has been proven to offer a broad spectrum of therapeutic actions, which include anxiolytic, antipsychotic, antidepressant, anticonvulsant, and neuroprotective effects. These have been studied over a large range of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Although most of these putative therapeutic properties were initially described in animal models, clinical... More »

Earlier this year, Annalise Lujan was competing in a Tucson gymnastics competition when she started vomiting and lost all feeling in her legs. “By her fourth event, she just couldn’t move. She couldn’t walk. She just was exhausted, tired, not feeling well,” Maryann Estrada-Lujan, Annalise’s mother told KVOA. When her parents took her to the Banner University Medical Center (UMC) in Tucson, Annalise was diagnosed with a stomach bug and sent home. The next night, however, she had her first seizure. Concerned about the health of their daughter, Annalise’s... More »

A groundbreaking new study published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine reported on the health benefits of cannabidiol for children with epilepsy. The randomized, double-blind, controlled study found that among children with Dravet syndrome taking cannabidiol, the decrease in the frequency of convulsive seizures was 23 percentage points greater than the decrease in seizures among children taking a placebo. Cannabidiol is one of hundreds of chemical components found in cannabis plants. Unlike THC, the most famous of marijuana's compounds, CBD... More »
