Cannabinoids and chemotherapy in combination kill cancer cells Last Updated on 2017-09-08 14:43:29 A new study confirms that cannabinoids, which are a class of active chemicals in cannabis, can successfully kill leukemia cells. They also find that the combination of chemicals and the order in which they are given is important. The findings will, no doubt, open the door to more effective treatments. Cannabinoids, also known as phytocannabinoids, act as cannabinoid receptors in the brain. The most well known of these chemicals, and one of the most psychoactive, is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). To date, there have been more than 100 cannabinoids identified, all with different properties and chemical profiles. And, over recent years, the potential anti-cancer effects of cannabinoids have come into focus. Laboratory and animal studies have demonstrated that certain cannabinoids inhibit tumor growth by promoting cell death, reducing cell growth, and blocking the development of blood... More »
Cancer Patient With Months To LIve Makes Incredible Recovery Using Cannabis Oil Last Updated on 2017-09-08 13:24:20 UNILAD  |  By Emily Murray  |  Lynn Cameron, 48 from Blantyre, was given ‘six to 18 months’ to live in December 2013. Four years later though she has been given the all clear and says it was cannabis oil that helped her survive. I took a seizure on November 30, 2013, prior to which I had been quite well. I had a scan on December 10 at Hairmyres Hospital and it showed a mass, and I was taken straight into Southern General at that point. I was operated on on December 16, and on December 27 I was told that I had stage four terminal brain cancer. A good friend suggested cannabis, but I was too scared because it’s illegal. I also found it hard to believe that it would cure brain cancer so advanced. But as the scans were showing there was no change to the mass, I eventually thought, ‘I’m going to break the mould here and try... More »
How marijuana can disrupt leukemia cells Last Updated on 2017-08-29 12:46:22 Daily News / 07.11.17 They also noted that in certain cases, when using specific dosage patterns, these six cannabinoids have the ability to destroy cancer cells on their own. Leukemia, is the blanket term for the four different types of cancer found in bone marrow and blood cells. There are roughly 200,000 U.S. cases per year and typically found in adults over the age of 55, but also found in children under the age of 15. While chemotherapy and other treatments are available, a recent study not only proves that that cannabinoids are anticancer agents, but that there are six different cannabinoids (the chemical compounds found in cannabis plant) that have anticancer effects on leukemia cells specifically. Dr. Wai Lui an oncologist and his team of researchers at the Department of Oncology at St. George’s, University London discovered that these cannabinoids were able to... More »
